Since I’m relatively new to the blogging world (and by relatively new, I mean I literally joined yesterday), I thought this might be a good place to start. I’ve taken these questions from Violet Glenton because of all the blogs that I read, I found her questions the most interesting – and she’s another Violet, so clearly it’s meant to be!
1. Are you named after anyone?
I can’t say where my real name came from without making it slightly obvious what it is, but my online name is actually named after myself. For the first six weeks of my life my parents called me Violet, before abruptly changing it. So. I’m named after myself.
2. When was the last time you cried?
Honestly? I think it was yesterday. I was reading a Tumblr post and it made me emotional. I can’t even remember the post now, and it probably wasn’t actually that emotional. I just cry over anything and everything. It’s terrible.
3. Do you have kids?
No, and I don’t plan on it anytime soon. I would like to have kids someday though.
4. If you were another person, would you be a friend of yourself?
This is something that I’ve thought about a LOT. Last year, it would have been a definite no, because I hated myself quite a lot. This year, I actually quite like myself. I’m still not sure if I’d be friends with myself though, because it’s really hard to get through how I come across upon first meeting me. I’m very awkward and rather socially anxious.
5. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
I am the most horribly sarcastic person I have ever met. I’m not even exaggerating. It’s got to the point that I’ll say something genuine, and my friends will squint at me and ask me if I’m being sarcastic. Sometimes I say things without even knowing if they’re meant to be sarcastic or not. I’m going to try and not do that on this blog, because although I actually really like my sarcasm, this is a place where I need to be genuine. Otherwise I may end up accidentally using it as a shield.
6. What’s the first thing you notice about people?
This is an odd one, but it’s actually their skin. Whether it’s completely smooth or covered in acne. If it’s flaky or oily. If it’s unblemished, or if it has bumps and dents. And yes, I’m aware that that’s a little bit disgusting. I’m just being honest.
7. What is your eye colour?
My right eye is a greyish blue, and my left eye is two different colours. The bottom half is blue, and the top half is brown. This is pretty much the only cool thing about me.
(Edit: I am an actual idiot, and I got my own eyes wrong. The top half is blue, and the bottom half is brown.)
8. Scary movie or happy endings?
I’m a sucker for happy endings, so I’ll go with that. I am a little morbidly fascinated with scary movies though.
9. Favourite smells?
There’s this mango hand cream from the Body Shop which incites ridiculous nostalgia in me every time I smell it. It takes me back to March 2016, because I wore it in that month. I can’t even describe what a strong effect it has on me, it’s very strange.
10. What’s the furthest you’ve ever been from home?
Egypt when I was 12 (I live in England). It’s also the only time I’ve ever stepped onto another continent.
11. Do you have any special talents?
I am ridiculously good at untying knots, which comes in handy quite a lot. I’m also naturally good at most video games for some reason.
12. Where were you born?
London. London’s a pretty big place, so hopefully none of you will be able to track me down from that.
13. What are your hobbies?
Reading, writing, playing my instruments and, currently, looking after kittens. My sisters and I are volunteering with a rescue centre and fostering a pair of 7-week-old kittens and they are the cutest thing. We also haven’t had to spend any money because the shelter provides everything, so if anybody is interested in kitten fostering please go and talk to your local shelter!
14. Do you have any pets?
Two dogs, and three cats. In the past I’ve also owned two more cats, three rabbits, three guinea pigs, four gerbils, and a mouse. And a partridge in a pear tree.
15. Do you have any siblings?
I have two sisters that are both younger than me, but we’re all very close in age. I’ll call them Marta (youngest) and Amy (middle child).
16. What did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was very little I wanted to be an archaeologist. When I was around 10 or so, I wanted to either be an author or a teacher. I still kind of want to be both of those things. I’m very consistent.
17. Who was your first best friend?
I’m going to use her real name because I literally haven’t seen her in twelve years. My first proper best friend was Francesca. She moved away when we were around 7 years old, and we were pen pals for several years. We haven’t sent each other a letter in a long time, and that’s probably a weird thing to do now, but I miss it.
18. How tall are you?
5 ft 7. It’s not even that ridiculously tall, and yet all of my friends are significantly shorter than me.
19. What was your favourite/worst subject in School?
My favourite was definitely Maths. I love Maths. I am possibly going to dedicate an entire blog post at some point to why I love Maths, so brace yourselves. My least favourite was Geography. I’m not even sure why, but I was so terrible at it.
20. What would you (or have you) name your children?
If it was a girl, I would name her Violet. And yes, I am aware that that is my name. But it’s not my real name. And I’ve wanted to call my child Violet for much longer than this blog has existed. I haven’t thought of a boy’s name yet.
21. How many girlfriends/boyfriends have you had?
As of yet, I have never had a girlfriend before. Or a boyfriend, but I’m not planning on ever getting one of those.
22. Favourite memory from childhood?
All of the pretend games that I would play with my sisters. Some of them were really weird: we had one game we would play on the trampoline where we pretended that we were fairies trapped in a sack of potatoes. I miss having an imagination.
23. How would you describe your fashion sense?
Charity shop chic. A large amount of my clothes come from charity shops. They’re cheap, and you can feel good about yourselves because you’re helping the environment. Also, it’s really fun because you never know what you’ll find there.
24. What phone do you have? (iOS v Android?)
iPhone. Sorry, I’m basic.
25. Tell us one of your bad habits!
Cracking my knuckles. And cracking an assortment of other body parts. Not only is it gross, but several of my friends have got so used to it that they’ve started doing it too, and they’re not happy about it.
I hope that you’ve found this vaguely interesting, and hopefully you know me a little better now than you did before.
